Smooth transitions in residential spaces

In the south of the Netherlands, in Mierlo near Eindhoven, the Dutch hub of technology and design, there is a minimal yet enchanting residence, where a calibrated interplay of light and dark tones guides you through the rooms.

Fluid spaces and soft shades for an apartment focused on creating an atmosphere away from everything.
The sophisticated color palette invites relaxation, as well as metaphorically getting lost in other worlds. Protagonists: powder pink and earthy tones of beige and brown, combined with white and a selection of natural materials.

In particular, the Sabi wallcovering from the Creative Collection Chapter IX becomes the true focal point of the project, giving a strong personality to the entire living space with an Eastern-inspired design. We talk about it with the designer Denise Hiddink – Kwinten, interior designer and founder of Studio Qasa.

The furnishings of this project interact with each other based on a precise color palette consisting of powder pink, earth tones and white. How did the careful selection come about?
The concept for this home was to create a warm, tranquil, and timeless atmosphere with a linear design and some focal points. The color palette played a significant role in achieving this vision. The precise selection of colors, including powder pink, earthy tones, and white, was carefully selected to evoke a sense of harmony and sophistication throughout the space.
When making the color choices, the preferences and desires of the client were given utmost consideration. Through close collaboration that allowed me to fully understand their vision, I was able to create a color palette in line with their personal style and preferences.

The powder pink was chosen for its softness and delicacy, adding a touch of femininity to the overall design. It brings a subtle warmth and elegance to the space, creating a soothing and inviting ambiance. Earthy tones, such as warm browns and beige, were used to ground the overall color scheme and establish a connection with nature. These earthy tones infuse the space with a sense of serenity, creating a very welcoming environment.

The strategic use of white further enhances the overall design concept. White acts as a unifying element, amplifying the natural light and creating an airy, open feel within the space.

The selection of materials also played a crucial role in realizing the desired concept. The use of natural materials added depth and texture to the space. I chose raw fabrics and a thick rug to offset the smoothness of the walls and floor, creating an interesting visual juxtaposition.

How did the idea of including wallcoverings on the living room and bathroom walls develop? How does this relate to other aesthetic choices?
I love wallpapers and greatly appreciate the impact they can have on an interior space. I often use them as a unifying element and a true eye-catcher. The intention of this interior design project was precisely to connect spaces.

Given the L-shaped layout of the room, I sought to create a seamless transition between the dining area and the living room. The Sabo wallcovering applied on two walls extends around the corner, visually tying the spaces together.

I carefully positioned the pattern so that the central section would be continuous and not interrupted by the doorway. The spherical element of the design adds a touch of color to the calm and serene living area, while the black leaves create a visual link to the dining area.

By incorporating a wallcovering in this manner, I added depth and enhanced the overall aesthetic of the apartment. The wallcovering acts as a focal point, drawing attention and injecting personality into the environment It is the element that completes and elevates the surrounding furnishings and decor.

What goal led to the selection of the Sabi wallcovering for the living room and Anthuse wallcovering for the bathroom, and what were the results?
I was drawn to the Sabi wallcovering due to its colours, simplicity, and the touch of mystery which characterized it. This design can be interpreted differently by everyone, and personally, it awakes a memory to me: a sunset over the rice fields in Sapa, Vietnam. The subject perfectly aligns with the current interior design trend of Japandi style, and its calming aura makes it a timeless design that can be paired with other styles as well.

Anthuse wallcovering, which I used from floor to ceiling in the bathroom area, creates a whole new world. The design and colours are an extension of the rest of the house, managing to enhance even the smallest room. Furthermore, the yellow concrete sink beautifully complements the chosen design’s colors. Thanks to the waterproof material, GlamFusion, and high-quality materials from Glamora, I felt confident in placing the sink and wall-mounted faucet directly on the wallcovering.
