The Vittoriale degli Italiani
The last thing Gabriele D’Annunzio created was the Vittoriale monumental estate overlooking Lake Garda, which can be considered his most self-defining work of art.
It sums up his ideal of aesthetics and life, and he chose the place for its landscape and light. Today it is a source of inspiration for surfaces that tell stories of natural transparencies, liquid landscapes, soft images, ideal for creating relaxing atmospheres.
A veritable manifesto of his beliefs regarding aesthetics and philosophy, and of his eclectic taste, mixing works of western art with eastern objects, the Vittoriale celebrates his “inimitable life” in a narrative itinerary that unwinds through its gardens, panoramic points and open-air theatre, coming full circle in the interiors of what the poet called the “Prioria”.
I found here on Lake Garda an old villa… It is full of beautiful books… The garden is nice, with pergolas and sloping terraces. And its warm light makes me long for that of Rome. I’ll stay here a few months, to finally finish Notturno.Gabriele D’Annunzio
“All that is here reveals the traces of my style with the significance I wish to give to my style”, he wrote in the Deed of Donation with which he gifted the property to the Italian people in 1923, re-calls Giordano Bruno Guerri, director of the Vittoriale Foundation. Here, on the lake, D’Annunzio had rediscovered the warm light of Rome, the shades of the waters of the Adriatic in his native Pescara, the bright lights of the city of Fiume and of Kvarner Bay.
Those mellow panoramas, the borders that appear and disappear, following the light, those blurred images, and that soft radiance return in some of the subjects of the Creative Collection Chapter X by Glamora. In surfaces that design walls between the real and the imaginary, and create relaxing interiors immersed in shadows and dissolving colours.
