An urban retreat between memory and modernity

Concealed within a historic building in the heart of Milan is a residential project that embodies an exquisite fusion of history and contemporaneity.

This private residence is a celebration of visual and tactile comfort, designed to evoke a feeling of warmth and welcome.
In this corner of the world, the owners have sought a kind of imaginary escape from the city to pleasant places that reside in their memories. An ambition of tranquillity and beauty that materialises through purposeful design choices and an atmosphere of serene elegance.
Wallcovering: Dolci voli dell’amor
The heart of this project is the use of three distinct wallcoverings from the Madama Butterfly Collection: Dolci voli dell'amor, Al primo incontro and Confin del mare.
These wallcoverings not only visually enrich the rooms but also act as narrative protagonists in the dining room, reading room and entrance corridor.
Every available square metre has been enhanced, transforming modestly sized spaces into areas of extraordinary visual breadth.
A few selected high-end furnishings, characterised by neutral tones and enveloping textures, blend harmoniously with the interior, offering an immersive experience that is both aesthetic and functional.

The tactile sensoriality flows through the materials with a natural and sustainable soul that constitute the collection's wallcoverings.
These include GlamBirch, a light sheet of birch that enhances the warm essence of wood, GlamRafia, made of woven vegetable fibres, defined by a dense and irregular visual rhythm that plays with light, multiplying its effects, and GlamCork, which entrusts its material beauty to bleached cork and creates a refined atmosphere.
The innovative design uses concealed sliding doors to create illusions of staggered planes, expanding the perception of space and offering seamless fluidity between living areas, transforming communal spaces into personal retreats of peace and beauty.
This solution allows rooms to change and adapt, reflecting the versatility demanded by modern living while respecting the integrity of a historic building.

This residence is a sublime example of how contemporary design can respect and revitalise the spirit of a historic home, demonstrating that elegance and comfort can coexist in perfect harmony.
