Riso Restaurant

Spread over an area of 1000 sqm, the Riso restaurant in Rome resembles an exclusively designed tropical oasis.

Inside the spacious location, recently renovated to a design by architect Fabio La Commara, a harmonious blend of subdued lighting and colour accents creates a pleasing atmosphere, in which to indulge in a gastronomic experience that mixes traditional Japanese flavours with a contemporary-style cocktail bar.
By applying Boscage to the large central bar and Madama Butterfly to architectural features such as niches and arches, the floral theme also extends to the surfaces, wreathed in nature-inspired patterns and exotic details.

What were your sources of inspiration and how did the Riso restaurant project develop?
The owners called us to carry out the restyling of an existing restaurant. They wanted to revamp the space with a softer, fresher, yet elegant, style. We had to take the restaurant’s young target market into account as well.
Reflecting on the recent fusion trends, we noticed that Japanese cuisine is increasingly being paired with Brazilian cuisine: the Riso restaurant itself mixes traditional dishes with creative cocktails. This combination led to the floral inspiration and with it the need to include natural features within the space. So, we decided to express this concept through the furnishing and by choosing wallcoverings that would reflect the aesthetic ethos.

Why did you choose the Boscage and Madama Butterfly patterns? How was the wallpaper used?
The clean lines, large airy spaces, exposed brickwork and large windows give the restaurant’s interiors a somewhat industrial feel. The idea was therefore to use a floral influence to bring warmth to the space, matching the imagery which we had initially taken as our source of inspiration. That is why we chose Boscage, used to cover the bar, and Madama Butterfly, applied to some of the niches and arches. The design of these wallcoverings, rich in natural details with an exotic flavour, also echoes the ornamental plants used to decorate the venue.

How did the collaboration with Glamora develop?
The opportunity to make use of Glamora’s bespoke service was crucial to making a success of the project. After choosing the pattern, we had to tackle the requirements of size and of scaling down the design, liaising with the dedicated in-house team, who helped us to resolve any issues quickly and in the best possible way.
